TAXES & INCREASING COSTS
(To the Editor.) Sir,—You are ever out for the benefit of the people. Your leader in today's issue regarding heavy taxation is very much to the point, and expresses the thoughts of hundreds in this city alone. It is to be hoped it will cause hundreds more to pause and reflect. This is how pre-election promises are honoured. HoW| long" are these depression taxes to be borne, taking people's hard-earned money? Levy, wage tax, sales tax —these should have : been ; abolished months ago, especially the two former. Despite the slight wages increases the wageearner is no better off than, before unless, in-his imagination. One of the promises was that the cost of living would not rise. What do we find? Every human need ' costs more—food, clothing, ( even transport; rents for apartments have become extortionate. How can- one spin the money out? Paradise!—l am, etc., G. MORRIS, April 9.
