only did the favourite suffer in the end, but Gasman was left completely and took no part in the race. The final fight for honours was staged by Lady Ina and Flammarion, ana in the last stride Lady Ina got a fraction of her' head in front. The pair followed Great Hope and Acceptable to th G straight.' First Acceptable, and then Great Hope were in trouble when challenged, and B'lammarion had charge at the half-distance, but Lady Ina was always alongside-' her track mate and she finally just wore him down.
Lady Ina: was recording her second success in open class and her most profitable victory yet., She beat all.except Ben Braggie and Peter Beckford on the first day, and, ■ with this pair out of the way; she confirmed the form. This six-year-old daughter of Cape Horn has come very-solid, since reverting to the ownership of her breeder, Mr. A. Southey, of Masterton.' •' . Flammarion. very nearly pulled .off the race, and he was .not disgraced in such narrow defeat. Great Hope againweakened under pressure, though he held on for third. Hunting-Mars,-after the trouble he gave at the start,. did hot deserve better than fourth. Black Thread, Royal Secret, and -Acceptable were next home, but, except for Acceptable, none was ever.a possibility.
