PRESBYTERIAN HARRIER CLUB

' The Presbyterian Harrier Club held its first = run of .' the season from Island Bay on Saturday. It-was very pleasing. Many new members :were present, and it is hoped that they, will enjoy. the sport and help the club to do even better this year .in the interclub events. After wishing the club every success in .the new season, the club patron, Mr. A. Martin, started 56 runners on a •'4s-mile course, which led up Mersey Street to Melrose, over the hills to the Houghton Bay road, and back to Island Bay. A run-in (the points gained in which are to count in the'competition for a medal to be presented at the end of the year) was held over the last 440 yards, the placings being: F. Norton and M.Pumfrey, dead heat, first, and A. Fagan- third. After the run tea was served by supporters of the club. . The .gathering closed with the singing of the-club song "Jog Along, Presbyterians,"- and ']Auld Lang Syne." " ■■"■'■ • Owing to the unavoidable absence of several club members, due to their attendance- at other ' functions/ ■it has been decided that next Saturday's run to be held from the Seatoun Presbyterian Church will .be the .first to count for attendance badges.
