BOWLER HATS

- Bowler hats can.be; freshened if you hold a piece'of velvet, in front of the .fire until;, thoroughly- hot, then rub the felts with, this. Repeat,-.two or three times before brushing in.the usual way. Light-coloured felt can be given a'quick clean with Jpt of cornmeal mixed with a quarter of a cupful each of common salt and flour. Rub this over the hat, leave for an hour or two, and brush out. Steaming revives both pile and colour. Peroxide of hydrogen is good for cleaning light straw hats (boaters especially) before they are put away. Apply with a toothbrush, then rinse quickly with cold water and put the hat to dry in the open air.
