SATURDAY'S CONTEST
ATHLETES NOMINATED
(Received August 12, 1 p.m.) LONDON, August 11. The British Empire team which is to compete against the United States in a relay and learn match on August I
15 will be selected from the Olympic representatives. A. Watson and G. Backhouse (Australia), and V. P. Boot have been nominated among- the seven from whom the four half-milers will be draijjn for the two-mile relay. Watson is among the seven nominations from whom four runners will be selected for eight laps of the steeplechase. J. E. Lovelock and C. E. Matthews (New Zealand) are among the threemilers for the team race in which four Empire athletes will compete. The Australian, J. Metcalfe, has withdrawn from the Empire versus America contest owing to a leg injury sustained in the Olympic hop, step, and jump, which has not yet sufficiently improved to enable him to compete.
