PARASANG'S LONG WAIT

Accidents are always liable to happen where racing i§ concerned, but there is something wrong somewhere when a horse with a broken leg is allowed to stand seventeen minutes before a gun is brought out to end his misery (says the Christchurch "StarSun"). This is what occurred when Parasang snapped a leg during a school at Riccarton last week. During all this time Parasang was standing fairly quietly at the spot where he was pulled up. Spectators waited for the gun and the end, but time went by and there was no official. A veterinary surgeon arrived without a gun and there was little he could do. After seventeen minutes there was a short report and" Parasang was dead.

Parasang's rider, N. C. Trillo, fared Hltle better than the horse, though happily, he was only winded. After he had been carried into the trainers' room on a stretcher, medical aid was called, but it was a matter of thirty minutes before a doctor arrived. Water was needed, but there was no glass, all the available glasses being locked in a cupboard in the room. A tobacco Im had lo .serve as a cup.
