MARANUI SURF CLUB
A bright and enjoyable dance was held on Saturday evening in the Hex Hall, Kilbirnie, by the social committee of the Maranui Surf and Lifesaving Club. Nothing was spared to make the function a success, and the decorations and general arrangements reflected great credit on an energetic committee.
It was the first time for a number of. years that the club has changed the venue of its popular dances, which have been held at the club house, Lyall Bay. Owing to the success which attended Saturday's function, arrangements have already been completed for another dance, also to be held at the more central Rex Hall. The object of the committee running the dances is to raise funds for the purchase of a new surf life-boat to replace the club's present craftj which, for a number of years, has/rendered invaluable rescue and patrol service in Lyall Bay.
Several novelty items, including a balloon dance, added to the gaiety on Saturday evening. A very fine solo tap-dance by Miss Judy Cooper, a pupil of Miss Hazel Martin, proved very popular with the gathering. The hall was tastefully decorated .with club and championship banners.
Among those present were Mesdames Doris Rathbone, Bellamy, Wood. Grey, McCartney, A. M. Russell, Hughes, Durrant, H. King, and L. Houchen; Misses C. Mclnnes, W. Glensor, J.
