"MUIR CUP" PRESENTED
At the dance arranged by the senior B representative basketball team and held on Saturday evening in the Wellington Rowing Club's hall, Mrs. H.--D. Muir (president of. the. New Zealand Basketball Association), 'who was wearing a frock of red marocain, presented the "Muir. Cup" to the Wellington team which defeated a Canterbury team in the afternoon. The members of the Wellington team, who also formed the committee for the dance, were:—Misses M. Fraser. (captain), S. Jones,'K. Norris, V. King, V. O'Hanlon, K. Blatch, L. Akel, J, Bowe, M. Lancaster, "E. Hathaway, D. Burns, and P. McGoldrick. The members of the Canterbury team who were present were Misses G. Mullens (captain), E. Sherratt, B. Cockrane, N. Leigh, N. Mahoney, G. Kinlay, R. Freeman, E. Smart, J. Bruce, and U. McLauchlan.
The function ' combined the entertainment of the visiting team with an effort to raise funds so that Wellington may. be represented at the annual Rotorua tournament. • . . -
The' programme included modern, old-time, and novelty dances and the balloons and streamers distributed added to the enjoyment of the function. An exhibition of ballroom dancing was given by Miss Margaret O'Connor and partner. ! . '
Bouquets were presented to Mrs. H. D. Muir, Mrs. J. D. Cairney, manager of the Canterbury team (who wore a blue frock trimmed with silver lame), and Mrs. A. Muir, manager of the Wellington team (whb was in black velvet). ■'.'."■" ■■.'.''
