PLEASANT FUNCTION
THE "UNEMPLOYED SHOP"
, A-very "enjoyable function was held recently by the ladies', committee of the Women and Girls' Employment Bureau, Wakefield Street. It was held in honour of the voluntary helpers at the Unemployed. Women's Shop, Mesdames Jameson (convener), Marks, Chapman, Garder, and Outhwaite,*who have worked continuously since the inception of the shop, giving their time generously for the sake of other'women less fortunately placed.
The Mayoress (Mrs. T. C.^A. Hislop) presided, and a very happy spirit, suggestive of the feeling that has always prevailed betv/een these ladies and the various members of the .; committee, was evinced. Mrs. Hislop presented the helpers with small posies, and, in| an appropriate speech, thanked them on behalf'of the ,committee. Mrs. Jameson thanked the Mayoress and the committee on behalf of the voluntary helpers, saying how attached the helpers had become to the work they had undertaken, and that pleasant memories of the various contacts they had made would always remain.,
A small presentation in the shape of a fountain pen was1 made to Mr. Jameson, who has given valuable service as honorary accountant to the shop since its inception. Mr. Jameson," in replying on behalf'of himself and the-ladies, said the work he had done had been a labour of love, and he felt that anything he had don.c was very small when one considered the stress of circumstances under which the people laboured who were being helped. Mr. Jameson thanked the committee and ti.e office staff, and paid tribute to the cordial relations which had always existed between them. .
A dainty afternoon tea* was served by the kitchen staff at the bureau.
