"RAINBOW GIRLS"

SUCCESSFUL EFFORT

PICTURESQUE CONCLUSION

A charming- and well-arranged cere 4 mbny took place at the Eve Triangle Hall last- evening•.when the "Rainbow Triangle" effort in.aid oi the funds of the .y.W.CjL was brought to a conclusion.

The hall was artistically decorated, the central attraction being the welldesigned rainbow at the back 'of the stage, where there were also groupings of flowering wattle, camellias, and bamboo, as well as bowls and vases of rhododendrons and spring-flowers, the decorations being carried round the hall very effectively. Large rugs and comfortable chairs made, a drawingroom effect both on the stage and in front of it, where, her Excellency Lady. Galway was conducted after being received at the entrance by Mrs. Robert Gardner and memoers of the Y.W.C.A. Board of /Directors,' and Miss Bridgman (general secretary). ■ ■ The hall was crowded with girls who had been concerned in the effort as well as by many of the club gir)s, : some in their special costumes, and a large;number of juniors.

Lady Galway,-who was accompanied by Mrs. Purvis, was greeted with songs specially written for the occasion, and sung to popular tunes with much spirit, led by Mr. Harry Wilson at the piano. The songs cleverly and cheerfully expressed some of the details of the enterprise, and.were an. interesting part of the function. Mrs.: Gardner welcomed: her Excellency and thanked her for sparing the time to come W the, closing of the "Rainbow" Triangle eifort. She alluded to the eightieth ahr. niversary of the inception of the Y.W.C.A. in London, speaking of the kind interest taken by Queen Mary at the time. :

A quaint skit was given on Y:W.C.A. work. JOO years hence, jwhere the girls were'presented flshing.ih the small amount of oceaii which (presumably) is to be the world at that time. Finally a. dainty bouquet in triangle form was fished.up t and presented to her Excellency. : The skit was very well carried out by the girls taking.part. ,: A' pretty ceremony followed. Lady Galway went up on to the sjage, where a gold bowl stood on a small table. A procession of girls then marched forward, representing the various firms whose staffs had taken part in. the "drive." Each carried a white placard with the name and sum raised, the results of which were enclosed' in a gold envelope with a blue triangle on the back., These were handed to her Excellency, who placed them in; the bowl. "It was.all very nicely conceived arid carried out, and Lady Galway gave her congratulations on the successful effort.
