CONTRIBUTIONS INCREASE

The annual meeting of the Porirua branch of the British and Foreign Bible Society was held recently in the Methodist Schoolroom. ? The Rev. S. Keen presided and gave a most in- 1 teresting and helpful address upon the growth of the movement; specially eulogising the -work- of the Dominion secretary, the Rev. David Calder, 8.A., who had so successfully made , the claims of the society known throughout New Zealand, manifested by the increased circulation and contributions. A hearty vote of thanks was accorded the speaker, and carried by acclamation. . ■ "." , , .

The secretary (Miss Hasse) reported upon the year's work, which, reflected much credit upon the members. Mrs. Porter paid a high tribute to the work of the secretary, and also to. Mrs. Haase, who had done the collecting with thoroughness. She stressed the importance of distributing the literature which helped so much to spread the knowledge and the latest information of the world-wide work done by the society. A cordial vote of thanks was passed to Mrs. Stevens ■■ for her years of service, as president, and genei-ous hospitality . which she had given at all times. A vote of sympathy was passed to Mr. Haase; with a wish for his speedy recovery to health.

Mrs. Thomson sang a sacred solo which was greatly appreciated.

The electjon of officers for the ensuing year resulted as follows:—President, the Rev. S. Keen, to whom the organising secretary expressed grateful thanks for the practical, sympathetic, and special support Mr. Keen had rendered during the Whole period of his ministry at Porirua; vice-presidents, Mesdames Keen and Hasse; secretary, Miss 'Hasse; collectors, Mesdames EastI wold, Findlater, and Miss Hasse; and [Paremata, Mrs. W. Caughey.

Mrs. Keen dispensed afternoon 'tea, assisted by members, and received a hearty vote of appreciation!
