ACCEPTABLE WELL RIDDEN

Acceptable's handling by A. Ridgway was one of the few bright spots in a very dull day of horsemanship, and it was to this that the horse owed his neck victory in the Wardell Handicap. Ridgway took Acceptable to the front past Prostration in the first furlong, and with Souchong going with him he was four lengths clear at the halfway mark. Then Souchong tired, and Prostration and Queen's Pride were right on Acceptable's heels at the straight. Prostration drove up on the leader's inner to take charge below the distance, but Ridgway. who had been sitting quiet, then asked his mount for an extra effort and he responded to draw to the front again in the final fifty yards.

Ridgway, who is a brother to the better-known horseman G. Ridgway. does not have many mounts, bill he knows Acceptable well, and he has been on him in

three of his four successes this season. He is attached to H. Pritchard's stable and he always rides the horse in his work. It was Acceptablc's sixtli win since he reverted to his breeder Mr. R. J. Murphy twelve months ago after his lessee had become tired of him, and it was his first open-company victory.

Queen's Pride, after dashing up along the outer from second last on the home turn, finished on to beat Prostration for second by a head. Prostration appeared to have every oossible opportunity, but the tide against his stable was too strong even for him, and he died out of a dividend. Full Throttle threatened danger half wav down the straight but did not see his' promising move on the inner through. The others were well beaten.
