CHRISTCHURCH VIEWS
"NOT SO OPPRESSIVE HERE"
(By Telegraph—Press Association.)
CHRISTCHURCH, February 5,
In accordance with the suggestion of the Minister of Education, the Canterbury Education Board decided today that the schools, will remain open in the. mornings only until February 18, by which date new instructions will be given.
Headmasters of Christchurch schools interviewed today gave at the best only qualified approval of the scheme; Their opinioii was that though the summer -heat in parts of. the North Island might. cause the exhaustion of children, the heat was seldom so oppressive here in Canterbury. They suggested that there would be only occasional need for closing in the afternoons.
One suggestion made was that discretionary power should be given to headmasters.
