AUCKLAND MEETING
SOLARIUM WINS EASILY
(Special from "Early Bird,") AUCKLAND, October 13. The weather was fine for the racing at Kllcrslic, with the track in good order. There was a large attendance. The totalizator investments were £25,935 10s, against £16,442 on the corresponding day last year, an increase of £9513 10s. The day last year was wet. There was an exciting finish to the Trial Hurdles, Free Air just heading oft' Chromadync and Allegretto. The first and second horses were having a hard fight at the half distance, when Chroinadyne bored out on Free Air, and while they were having their tussle Allegretto finished very last. Catoina went a moderate race and Great Britain galloped and jumped nicely, well out in front, for half the journey. Dark Marble and La Femme Noire'fell at the second fence, the former when leading. GUINEAS A FINE RACE. The Guineas was a very fine race, with the favourite Gay Blonde just getting up to beat Namakia, who was at almost double figures, to win. Gay Blonde jumped away smartly from Burnish, but Namakia ran through very quickly, while Rerepai was up handy with Sporting Blood, the former dropping back to last at the six furlongs, only to go up fast_ again and be lying on the outside of Burnish and Sporting Blood, a couple of lengths behind Namakia, passing the five furlongs. The pacemaker was just ahead of Sporting Blood at the home turn, the latter haying dropped Burnish and Eerepai a little further back, while Gay Blonde, Canopy, Burnish, and Mother Superior were next and Lady Kyra last. At the distance Namakia had shaken off Sporting Blood, and then Gay Blonde made her effort, to beat Namakia by half a length, with Sporting Blood less than a length away, a couple of lengths clear of Mother Superior. Next to arrive were Rerepai, Pin Money, Burnish, Canopy, and Lady Kyra, with Day Wind tailed off. Gay Blonde, who was not quite herself, proved her superiority in convincing fashion, and she was ridden a wonder-fully-judged race. Namakia showed a lot of pace, running the first half-mile in 49sec. Sporting Blood went a fine race, but Mother Superior was not well placed most of the way. Ilerepai proved troublesome for Voitre and the run of the race was right against him. He was far from disgraced. Kereatu waited on Rippling Waters and Grand Sport to the home turn in the Shorts Handicap, and he went to the front at the half distance to score convincingly from Grand Sport, who only hung _on long enough to stall off Tradesman's finishing effort. British Columbia, who was badly placed at the half-mile, finished well into fourth place, while Star Artist showed up to bo fifth. She will be greatly improved by the outing. SOLARIUM WINS IN A CANTER. Solarium, second favourite, won the Mitchelson Cup in a canter, running right away from his opponents over the final furlong, the official verdict being three lengths, and it might have been a bit more. Horowhenua led Korokio, Spiral, lied Manfred, and Solarium through the straight the first time, and passing the six furlongs Wiggins took Solarium to the front and he was still showing the way at the home turn, where Korokio, Baroscope, Mungatoon, Carfcx, Horowhenua, and Limbohm were following, with Red Manfred and Gainsfld heading the remainder. Korokio challenged Solarium at the distance but could make no impression and he then loft the field to it. Korokio was easily second, with Red Manfred finishing strongly into third place and heading oil' the tiring Carfex. After them camHorowhenua, Baroscope, Limbohm, Muugatoon, Spiral, and Gainsfid, with the jumpers Havering und Wee Pat whipping in the field. " Solarium carried a couple ot pounds overweight but he won with something in hand-and in the style of a fine stayer. Korokio ran up to her best i'onu and Red Manfred's final dash from v bad position suggested him as a New Zealand Cup proposition. Carl'ex ran a good' race and so did Baroscope, the former finding the distance a bit too far. Limbohm was well back and Spiral, a big favourite, was in a good position for six furlongs, after which ho never stopped drifting rearwards. MISS DAZZLE'S STEEPLECHASE. Two starts for two wins was Miss Dazzle's record at the conclusion of the Hunters Steeplechase. She was in front all the way except for ~ brief occasions when Flower Bag outjumped her. The latter failed to concede the winner 18!b and an interrupted preparation did not assist Flower Bag, who was outstayed from the second-to-last fence. Capella Abbey and London went fair races. Hauwai fell five fences from home and his chance did not look too bright then. The Welcome Stakes proved to be the best of good things for Galilee, who collared Symcony a hundred yards from the post and outstayed her in convincing fashion. None of the others had any chance. Kotou was going well in second place running to the three furlongs, where she fell. The winner is a good sort and is susceptible to further improvement. Symcony was a bit slow to find her feet but she'soon showed her speed.' However, :i was a poor spectacle as a race. THE FINAL EVENTS. Kully put up a game performance to win the Gordon Handicap, in which he was only a little less better backed than Gipsy Moth. Tray Bit,: Gipsy Moth, and Scotland were on terms at the home turn, with Mungaere. and Royal Appellant next and Kelly eighth. Nearing the post it looked odds on Tray Bit. but Kelly kept up his two-furlong run and just got up. Close up were Hikutaia, Scotland, On Parade, and Gipsy Moth, with Kurapae, Aubretia, First Lap, and Mungaere following. Kelly will take some beating in his next few starts, while Gipsy Moth and First Lap are likely improvers. Tray Bit was at a long price. • , Versant registered a smooth periormance to win the Flying Handicap after leading over the last six and a half furlongs. Versant was followed into the straight by Arch Ruler, Chief Cook, and Gay Marigold, while Kiltowyn was about eighth and putting in a fine run, but Versant easily held, off Gay Marigold and Kiltowyn, the last-named making a splendid effort. Pomp, Karangapai, Knight of Australia, Prolyxo, and Lord Val headed the bunch. RESULTS IN DETAIL.
