RACING AT WASHDYKE
POLYDORA BACK IN FORM
(Special to the "Evening Puit.") CHRISTCHURCH, This Day. The South Canterbury Jockey Club had bad luck in the weather for Saturday's meeting. Heavy rain fell in the morning and the track was decidedly holding. There was a moderate attendance only, and the totalisator investments were £C 462 10s, as against £8579 last year. THREE ON END. Lycidas made his record three wins on end by taking the Otaio Hurdles. Coll took charge after half a mile from Footwork, Hostage, Monastic, and Gold Kuight. Monastic dropped out at the far turn, where Lycidas started to move up. Hostage was done with at the home turn, and Gold Knight when the straight was reached. Lycidas finished strongly to beat Coll by two lengths, Footwork being two lengths away, with Hostage and Gold Knight next, several lengths back. Lycidas is likely to improve further. Coll van his best r/ace to date. In the Spring Stakes Honour s Lass soon took charge from Tuirau, Joyous, Secret Taper, and Coalpit, arid Epris nud First View joined in at the home turn. Honour's Lass and Joyous retired when the straight was reached, Tuirau beating Secret Paper easily by two lengths. Epris was three lengths away, with First View, I Spy, Coalpit, Honeste, and Royal Coat next. The winner was third to Elbanor and Moonbeam on the same course in May. She has done a lot of racing, but this was her first success. The Washdyke Trot was a good race. Red Glow, Iraq, and True Reflection made the early running, but Adsum headed them five furlongs from home. A furlong further on Gamble and Subsidy ran to the front, Shandon Chimes and Impostor following them to the straight. Subsidy failed to stay and Gamble beat Impostor decisively by a length, with Shandou Chimes three lengths away, Iraq being close up fourth. 1 POLYDQRA IMPRESSIVE. Polydora scored an impressive win in the Tesehemaker Handicap and she will now be in strong favour for the New Zealand Cup. Great Star led out from Red Racer, Sweet Agnes, and Locksley. Going to the back Red Racer took charge. Ranelagli was last at this stage, with Polydora just in front of him. Tout le Mondo made a move five furlongs from home und n littlo further on Polydora went up fast, joining Red Racer iv the lead at the entrance to the straight. Polydora and Sweet Agnes had not raced since the Grand National Meeting. Polydora will next race at Trenthain. Elbanor collapsed in the straight, but need not be condemned, as it was his first race since May. Great Travis begun smartly in the Haillow Trot, Argolis joining him after three furlongs, with Guy Mauritius, Dinner Bell, and Impostor handy. Guy Mauritius and Impostor drew clear in the straight, the former winning by three lengths. Argons was ten lengths away, with Great Travis, Cavalcade, Licorice, and Sea Trail close up.
