KILBIRNIE CLUB

The Kilbirnie Club's season Mas declared open by the club's president, Mr. W. J. Gaudin. There were many visitors for tho occasion, and they were met by Mr. J. H. Phillipps, club captain and chairman o£ the Wellington Cricket Association's junior championship committee. In welcoming the visitors, a large number of them from the Wellington Club, the president referred to the happy relationship between the clubs, which was shown again that day in the special matches between teams from the Wellington and Kilbirnie Clubs. He also spoke of the Kilbirnie Club's progress and its achievement last season in winning the senior championship. Increasing interest was being taken in cricket at Kilbirnie, and it was pleasing to note also how the game was progressing in AVellinglon. A continuance of the encouragement .of ' the young cricketers would mean further progress. Mr. R. Semple, M.P. also spoke, and in wishing the club a ;;iiccessful season he congratulated if upon its past success.

Mr. M. F. Luckie, on behalf oE the Wellington Cricket Club, thanked the Kilbiruie Club for its hospitality, and took the opportunity of congratulating Kilbirnie upon its accomplishments in recent years. Mr. Luckia also referred with pleasure to the continued advance of the game in .Wellington. Among other officials present at Kilbirnio was Mr. A. Varney, hon. secretary of the. AA 7ellington Cricket' Association. Good wickets had been prepared by Mr. 11. AVilkins, and these were used to the full. In the match between senior elevens from the Kilbirnie and AVellington Clubs the participants were'given a limited time witli the bat. Most of last season's seniors.took part. The second elevens' from the clubs ' also played a match, and four other Kilbirnie teams 'occupied two more wickets.
