CLUB OPENINGS

COMPETITION PRELIMINARIES

In preparation for the official opening of the season, whic'i takes place next Saturday, many local cricketers were in action on Saturday afternoon; there were practices and special matches on various grounds.. At Kilbirnie and Karori the local clubs held their otlk-ial openings, and several practice matches wen: played by those clubs as well ;is l.y others that hii'.l been granted wickets. The Wellington Club joined with the Kilbirnie Club in its opening. Kelburn Park wickets were all occupied, Institute and University being well represented on that area. In the Hutt Valley the afternoon was also used to good purpose by cricketers. Practice is to be in full swing this week.
