A New Zealander who is making a niche for herself in the literary world is Miss Evangeline Deverell, of Santa Barbara, U.S.A., and formerly of Inyercargill.

Miss Deverell is well known throughout .New Zealand. She- is the second daughter of' the late Mr. Walter Deverell, who was connected with the Lands and Survey office for 47 years.

•Miss Deverell's first book, "Eve Stanley in New Zealand," was published in. London when she was a schoolgirl of. fifteen. After'going to America she wrote several articles to different magazines, some, of- her articles on child culture being- syndicated. The writer was made a member of the Authors' League ■of America after publishing her second book, "Tales of a Pair Governess," and other short stories. Her latest book is "Alan Singh," a Canadian fairy tale, with illustrations by Scott Snell, the wellknown artist. .
