CROUPIER LIKE CHATHAM
Croupier, avlio arrived in Sydney from New Zealand in August, was reported, to be 'suffering from respiratory trouble,' and lie made a "noise" as soon as he was put to fast work (says an Australian writer). His owner, Mr. E. J. Murphy, is, however, of opinion that the gelding's case is not hopeless, and this is supported by veterinary opinion. Messrs. J. Pottie and Sons, who treated Chatham successfully, were asked to report on the case of Croupier, and the report suggests that the New Zealand horse is very likely to respond to-treatment. His trouble is thought to be similar to that which affected Chatham, but the latter was in more serious flight when he tras first treated by the vets. All.,idea of racing Croupier in the spring has now been abandoned, and he is to be placed on ~ a special diet, and a course of medicine. His progress will be watched with-more than ordinary interest, for he was a.brilliant horse in the Dominion, and last season won the Jockey Club Handicap, one mile, at Riccarton, registering a track record for the journey. :
