CIVIL CASES
CONSIDERABLE DECREASE
"The civil figures for the Magistrate's Courts during 1933 show a substantial all-round decrease from, those of the previous year, and, with the exception of the amount recovered, which was lower in 1925, are the lowest recorded during the last ten years," states the annual report on justice statistics compiled by the Census and Statistics Office. "Civil actions in. the Supreme Court also decreased considerably during 1933." It would appear from this statement of the position that the volume of litigatioa is controlled, if not very largely, then to some extent, by the economic conditions prevailing.
In regard to inquests, tho report states that they wore necessary in 134 fewer cases last year than in 1932. The. number of findings of homicide and suicide included in the total was 11 and 44 fewer respectively. The number of findings of accident decreased by 58.
