BARWICK INDISPOSED
Good performances were also registered by Metcalfe and Hampson at Elthap on Wednesday evening last. The other member of the team, E. .W. Barwick, was indisposed and did not compete. Metcalfe cleared 6ft 3in in an exhibition .high. jump. In a handicap event, iv which, he conceded: handicaps up to- 13% m, he cleared 6ft. IHin, being placed third to K. Burt (Eltham) and A. Keller (Stratford), who were each given 12in and were equal with' 6ft 2in: Metcalfe won the shot putting with an effort of 38ft Oiu, and also the broad jump, his-.winning leap being 2.lft o%in. In ah exhibition hop, step, and jump with Sullivan (Taranaki championi, the Australian registered 46ft 1 lin and Sullivan 42ft llin. Hampson's performances were also distinctly outstanding. In the first heat of, a 100 yards handicap he won comfortably by.a niai'cin of two yards in the time of lOsec. He did not start in the final. Conceding starts up to six yards in' a 100 yards invitation race, he. won very convincingly by two and a half yards, also in lOsec. The furlong resulted in a very easy win for the Australian by four yards, his time bpin<; 22»prr.
