UNIVERSITY V. MIDLAND

The match between Midland and University, which was resumed at Kilbirnie Reserve on Saturday • afternoon, resulted in a win for University on the first innings. At the conclusion of last week's play University had made a first innings score of 261, and Midland, who had made 134 for three wickets, carried their score last Saturday to 222. Law quickly settled down, and both he and O'Neill appeared to be in a run-getting mood. O'Neill, after making 17 runs, lost his wicket Ibw to Ti-ieklebank, and Law followed shortly after by giving an easy catch at mid-off. Law's contribution of 76 was compiled in confident manner, and it included twelve 4's. Of the remaining batsmen McCaw and Baker were the only two to reach, double figures, the former giving an aggressive display. University opened their second innings with Simpson and Dean. In approximately two hours the side was disposed of, for 164, with Dean, Struthers, and Cooper the main scorers. By making 36 runs Struthers topped the list, and again justified his place in the team. Dean, iwho is usually University's last man, \vas given the honour of having first strike, and proved his worth by making 30 runs in a bright.manner. Midland in their second innings compiled 4o runs for the loss of four wickets. An appeal at 6.15 against the light was -upheld. The game was notable for the excellent fielding by both sides, and was also marked by the good bowling performances of O'Neill (Midland) and D.can (University). Tricklebank brought his total number of wickets for the season to sixty. Details:— UNIVERSITY. ' First innings 261? Second Innings.
