REPAIRING CHIMNEYS
BUILDING FEES REMITTED
As a result of the publication in "The Post" of the offer of the Borough Inspector of Lower Hutt to inspect any chimneys which owners may suspect, of having been damaged in last week's earthquake, Mr. J. Fletcher has bee'i kept busy during, the last few days. He states that he found quite .1 number of chimneys broken at roof Invel, but still standing in such a position that the defect w.as not apparent unless a close inspection was made. The Mayor of Lower Hutt (Mr. J. W. Andrews) asked at a meeting of the council last evening for the direction of the council in regard to enforcing the bylaw which makes the payment of a building fee necessary before repairs are.PUt m,hand. It was unanimously decided _to remit the fee in all cases of repairs to chimneys damaged by earthquake. In reply to a question, the Mayor said that the council would rigidly refuse to sanction plans for any building with dangerous parapets or nroippHnn?
