PRICES AT FEILDING

Dalgety and Company, Limited, report on their Feilding cattle fair, held on Friday:—ln the sheep section the numbers were smaller and the demand was in excess of the supply of fat sheep, owing no doubt to the butchers having to fill two weeks' requirements, and there is no sale next Friday owing to'the show here. Some good quality sheep were penned, and practically all were shorn. The sale opened with a distinct advance on the previous sale, and this advance of Is 6d to 2s per head was fully maintained throughout. The - store section comprised mainly hoggets, and these were keenly competed for, practically everything being sold at auction. There was a full yarding of cattle, which with the exception of fat cattle met an easier market; particularly was this the case with young cattle, both run and dairy sorts. The New Zealand Farmers' Co-operative Dist. Co.. Ltd., report on the Feilding supplementary cattle fair:—We submitted a yarding of 1300 head of all classes.' There was a good inquiry for good conditioned grown bullocks and run-bred cows and heifers, prices for these sections being well maintained. In view of the fact that feed has not yet come away in up-country districts the demand for young steers was not ro keen and prices declined by 5s per head. Station-bred . yearling heifers sold freely. The quality of the yearling Jersey heifers was not up to last sale, and values were comparatively low. Beef, both ox and cow, was in demand, and prices fully maintained. In sheep our entry was confined to fats, all lots selling freely at improved prices. Abraham and Williams, Ltd., report on their Feilding sale held on Friday as under:—A medium entry of sheep in all sections came forward to meet a buoyant market and we report a total clearance, values in all sections improving on last week. Fat sheep were short in supply and here again prices appreciated considerably. A heavy yarding of run cattle came forward, and in this department the sale was inclined to drag; nevertheless a fair clearance was effected —values hardly being maintained on the late rates., Fat cattle: Very few good quality cattle came forward; nevertheless the demand was fairly keen. Dairy-bred yearling heifers were again penned in large numbers —these met just a fair sale with quite a fair number of passings. Dairy cattle: Very few were yarded, with practically no alteration on last week's rates. RONGOTEA QUOTATIONS. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co,, Ltd., Palmerston North, report:—During the week we held Kongotea sale, and the supplementary cattle fair at Fcilding.. At Rongotea we had a heavy .yarding of pigs and a small entry of cattle. Tiia pig market was good, and we cleared the entry under the hammer at prices. satisfactory to venders. The cattle market was dull. Prices were:—Springing heifers £4 15s cows, £3 to £4 ss; fat cows, £2 12s to £3 I6s; store cows, 20s to 31s; yearling heifers, 36s to £2 7s 6d; porkers, 345, 365, 39s £2 Is. to £2 4s; stores, 21s to 31s; weaners, 16s, 17s 6d, 18s 6d, to 20s 6d.. At the Feilding cattle fair on Friday we' had a good entry. With the exception of bullocks prices were easier. Prices: —Bullocks, £4 12s 6d to £5 2s 6d; 2 and 3yr Hereford steers, £3 12s to £3 ICs; yearling steers; £2 8s 6d to £2 14s; heifers-, 57s 6d to £2 4s 6d; yearling Jersey heifers, 35s to £2 17s 6d;.fat woolly hoggets, 18s Od.

The directors of Youiighusband, Ltd., woolbrokers, Melbourne, have declared a dividend of 3 per cent, for the half-year ended September 30, payable on November 25. Interim dividend paid last year was 2'/i per cent., and final dividend was also at that rate, making 5 per cent, for the year ended 'March 31, 1933.
