THE CITY MISSION

MISSIONER'S RESIGNATION

LETTER TO BISHOP

A copy.of the letter of resignation forwarded by the City Missioner, the Eev. T-. Fielden Taylor, to the Bishop of Wellington (Dr. T. H. Sprott) has been handed to "Tho Post." Tho letter is,as follows: — Wellington City Mission. ' 172 Taranaki'Street, •,, Wellington, C.3. September, 29, 1933. The Et JRer. Lord Bishop of Wellington, ' My Lord, . I beg to tender -you my resignation | as missioner of the Wellington City Mission. My resignation is due to my health, which steadily gets worse, and the doctors assure me.that lighter work is essential. Under the arrangements of the standing committee I am supposed to give three months' notice, but I should like to be allowed to make this a six months' notice, so that I can carry pn till the end of March next for the following reasons:— 1. It will enable me to see tho Mission through to, the «nd of tho ■ present financial year. 2. I have candidates preparing for Confirmation and I should like to present them myself February or March next, whichever is most suitable to you. :■•■-•. 3. It is desirable that I should be here to carry out the usual programme for Christmas cheer. I am sorry to take this step, but I cannot.shut my eyes, to the fact that my physical disabilities are increasing. I respectfully ask you to place .this resignation before the standing committee with my regrets at being compelled to place it before them. Yours obediently, (Sgd.) T. FIELDEN TAYLOB. Thj3 letter was considered at a meeting of the standing committee held on October 25, and the following resolution was passed:— "That after considering with sympathetic attention the letter of resignation of the Key. T. F. Taylor, the standing committee considers, that in view of Mr. Taylor's decision that his health will not permit him to continue his activities, it would not be right to try and induce Mr. Taylor to overtax his strength, and therefore accepts his resignation on tho terms suggested by him with great regret."
