NURSERY MUSIC
AN INTERESTING EVENING
An interesting and original programme entitled "Music via the Nursery," was presented at tho recent meeting of the British Music Society's piano group, held at the Y.W.C.A. There was a large attendance of members. The programme included piano and vocal compositions, written specially for the child, members of the vocal group assisting. Mr. Karl Atkinson, leader of the piano group, introduced each performer and briefly described the items. One interesting feature was the performance of three minuets, composed by the child Mozart, between the ages of five and nine, and played by Miss Judith Giesen. A children's overture, by Koger Quilter, and arranged as a pianoforte duet, was also given. Members of the piano group who performed were Misses Isa Anderson, Judith Giesen, Joyce Porter, Joan Maunder, Eileen Eoache^ and Irene Spidy. Members of the vocal group who gave songs were Mrs. Townley, Misses Molly Atkinson, Ella Pair, Hirst, Anno Gilpin, Christina Young, and Mr. Roy Hill. Very able accompanists wero found in Mrs. Hunt, Misses Hobbs, Moncrieff, and Hirst. There were also present Mesdames C. S. Black, G. Giesen, Eoy Hill, and P. Shorland, Misses H. Hiseock, L. Black, IT. Howard, L. Chalker, S. Parr, J. Page, and M. Pilcher, and Messrs. D. Ferguson, K. Pieton, and Harding. A delicious supper was served.
