OBITUARY

MR. W. W. DE CASTRO '

BLENHEIM, This Day.

The.death has occurred of Mr. William." Waring de Castro, aged 72, the only surviving officer of the original Masonic Grand. Lodge of New Zealand. He was a former Registrar of Lands at Blenheim, Nelson, anil Invercargill, and was also stationed at various times at Christchurch, Hokitika, and Wellington. .

DUNEDIN, This Day.

■The death has occurred, at the ago of 58 years, of the Rev. W. H. Roberts, vicar of Holy Trinity Church, Port Chalmers. Although he was not in robust health, Mr. Roberts's death was unexpected. He took an active part in local affairs, being chairman of the Progressive League and chairman of the unemployment committee. Born in ■England, ho arrived in the North Island as a young clergyman. Ho was on active service in the Great War.

MR. L. C. HEMUS

AUCKLAND, This Day.

The death has occurred of Mr. L. G. ("Chummy") Hemus, a former wellknown Auckland and New Zealand representative cricketer.

"Mr. Hemus was one of the best cricketers New Zealaud ever turned out," said a prominent cricketer to a "Post" representative when, he learned of Ms death. "He was a stylish player on the 'off,' and captained Auckland for several.;;years about 20 to 25 years ago. He was included in tho New Zealand cricket team which toured Australia in. 1913-14, and was a prominent batsman in the Plunkot Shield matches, scoring centuries and over on at least four occasions."

LEGISLATION PASSED

Tho Rent Restriction A^ct, extending for a year tho provisions. of the existing law, was put through all stages in the House of Representatives early this morning. It was pointed out by the Prime Minister (the Rt. Hon G. W. Forbes) that it was necessary for the legislation to be put through immediately in order to prevent the legislation now in force expiring, and at his- request, the measure was put through all stages in ton minutes.
