By "Sticks." KARORI'S RECORD

SENIOR A CHAMPIONS

OTHER SUCCESSES

The record of the Kai'ori Club promises to be an unusually fine one this season. The senior A team has made no mistake about annexing the grade championship, and when it-is remembered that the team's tally includes one loss and two drawn games it will be conceded that the players have done remarkably well in finishing up the season with such a substantial lead. A review of the results since the season opened shows that the team took the lead in the competition on tho fourth playing Saturday, and although its margin of points over the next team fluctuated and fell to as low as one, principally as a result of Huia's sensational win in the second round, on the form displayed there was never much doubt about Karon's ultimate success. The string of successes won over the final stages of the competition gave none of the other leading* teams a chance of championship honours. Wellington's win in tho championship last season followed four consecutive victories by Karori, and considering the f . t that Moore and Spiers were in Australia with the New Zealand representatives the result was not altogether surprising. This season the Karori senior A team has been kept up to full strength throughout, and the victory has been well deserved. There is a fairly general opinion held in hockey, as in other sports, that the championship should cha_. o c hands each year, if possible, with a view to creating additional interest pud stimulating the other teams in the competition to greater endeavours. This would be most desirable if all the teams were on a footing with ono another, but where one team stands out as obviously superior'there can be no denying its right to the honours, even over a long period of years. Moreover, the achievement in wresting the championship from such a team is all the more creditable, and that in itself provides an adequate stimulus. Thu Karori senior B team has an exoollent prospect of winning the championship, having a lead of two points from the next team, Hutt, and the meeting of these elevens this afternoon was expected to provide a hard and interesting game. The position is much the same in the junior grade, tho deciding game in which was to have been played this afternoon between Karori and Technical. Karori's two-point advantage over Technical was a useful ssset. The third grade championship has also been won by Karori by a good margin of points. The club is not represented in the fourth grade, but its team in the intermediate grade has a commanding position, and its success is practically assured. The Huia senior A team has made a splendid showipg for its first year in the grade, and the result of the match against Hutt this afternoon cannot displace it from the position of runnerup. With the experience gained this season Huia should b'j. ir formidable combination next year.' • ,' ■■
