WESLEY CLUB

The Wesley third grade team now seem likely to end in second place in the competition. On Saturday week they drew with Karori, the leaders, after a fast and exciting game, in which clever defence and solid goalkeeping by the Blacks ■ were notable features. .For Wesley, Johnson, at centre, was an admirable leader in attack, and Stant, on the left wing, made many tricky runs. As this team is comparatively new to the game, its continued improvement throughout the season is very creditable. The annual competition for the Philpotts Cup is to be held on September 2, probably at Kilbirnie. Waaganui and AV'ellington (the .joint holders) are again competing, and there is a chance that Nelson (Wakatu) will come over. In this event, there will be a triangular contest. Curtain-raisers will be played by members of both the women's and men's clubs, arid in the evening the clubs will entertain the visitors at the annual banquet.
