Barwiek (Tasmania) won the big Australian event comfortably with Sheaves (N.S.W.) second and Weightman (Victoria) third. , Colman (Victoria), the previous holder of the title and a very fine runner, who was expected to fight put the issue with Barwick, disappointed his supporters and could not do better than fourth. New South Wales surprised by winning the teams, raco from Victoria, who, howover, were without the services of Hillhouse and Hyde. It is noted that the A.A.U. of Australia insists on all the runners being medically examined prior to the race. It has never appeared necessary to do this in New Zealand.
