MARATHON RACE

Some time ago tho suggestion .was made that the marathon race to be staged by the Wellington Centre should bo run in November in conjunction with tho ■ Confidence Week Carnival. Now it has been proposed to hold a "Harrier-Marathon" race in early September. It is to bo hoped -that the Wellington Centre will refuse to.sanction any such ' events. Even November is far too early to allow of tho special preparation that is absolutely essential for competitors in such a race. However worthy the object may bo, the .welfare of 'the runners and the success of the event should not be jeopardised. And to suggest at this stage that a marathon race should be run in two or three weeks' time is simply ridiculous. ■ . . .
