MR. DE VALERA RE-ELECTED
ATTITUDE OF CENTRE
(Received 9th February, 3 p.m.) ! DUBLIN, Bth February. . i The Dail opened and Mr. de Vaiera elected President by 82 votes to. 54. The Centre Party did not vote; The galleries and. Government benches cheered when Mr.. Moylan. in ! proposing Mr. de Vaiera, said he hoped next time to nominate him as President of a thirty-two County Irish Republic. Mr. Cosgrave, in opposing the motion, said there was little hope of "success in the Government's internal policy considering the- nature of its external policy, which had cost the country deaf. Mr. MacDermott said that it was impossible for the Centre Party to support the re-election of Mr. de Valenu butin view of "the result .of the election it would not vote against him. Mr. de ; Vaiera announced that the Ministry was unchanged except that Mr. Gerald Boland would be appointed Postal Minister, filling the vacancy Caused by Mr. Geoghegan _. retirement. Mr. Kuttledge would.be transferred to the Ministry of Justice and Mr. Connolly to the Ministry of Lands and Fisheries..
