HUTT FLOWER SHOW

SUMMER BLOOMS

Gladioli, dahlias, and hydrangeas are the outstanding flowers at the midsummer show which was opened this afternoon in the King George Theatre, Lower Hutt, by Mr. W. Nash, M.P. In spite of the bad weather during, the past week there are more entries than last year, and many outstanding and new varieties o£ flowers are shown. Among the stands for exhibition only are several of begonias, that of Mr. C. H: Matthews being:of exceptional merit, the blooms being of.enormous size and the colours remarkable. Ordinary gardeners will, however, probably be most interested in the collection shown by Mr. T. W. Attwood, which shows that begonias can be successfully grown outside. A special* feature of Mr, Attwood's exhibit is an asparagus springeri, probably the largest in the Dominion, with fronds over six feet long., Mr. W. H. Barker has also a stand of begonias. Stands of gladioli are shown by Mr. Ti C. Bilby and Mr. S. H. D. Peryman, and stands of dahlias by A. J. Shailer and Son and Mr. A. McMillan. The Borough Reserves Committee has a stand o£ cut flowers, amongst which are hydrangeas and seedling dahlias which are worthy of note. Mr. J. S. Dallenger has a trade display, and Miss A. Farcy has a fine display of floral work. Two.novelty exhibits are banksia grandis, a strange Australian flower shown by Mrs. A. R. .Gower, and a Painted Lady runner bean shown by Mr. H. Styles.

The show will bo continued this evening and to-morrow afternoon - and evening.
