SUDDEN STORMS
SEA OF GALILEE
VIOLENT WIND CHANGES
(From "The Post's" Representative.) LONDON, 29th December.
Aeroplanes, like the - fishermen of the New Testament, have suffered from the sudden night tempests in Galilee (writes the aeronautical correspondent of "The Times")- The aeroplanes, too, have taken fright and will stay for tho night no more near the Lake of Tiberias, or Sea of Galilee. The winds cannot be predicted; their direction may change so quickly that the pegs and tetherings of a big aeroplane cannot be adjusted soon enough. The liners of Imperial Airways will henceforth go to Eamleh for the night. A popular explanation of such violent variations relies upon the assumption of a ralpid cooling of the air after sunset over the desert and Mount Hermon. The mud so produced rushes into the river valleys and wadis and descends on tho lake. The disturbances may occur at any time during the niglit or early morning. They xmay be of some intensity, arid the wind has been known to swing round a full 180 degrees within a few minutes. A report by a meteorological officer in Galilee early this year showed that the -wind was blowing from tho north at. 1.6 p.m. .on a particular day, and was blowing from tho south seven minutes later: As a, rule these winds do not exceed 30 miles an hour'in velocity, which in itself is a high rate for a katabatic •wind, but at times the air liners pegged out for the night have been bufieted by_ winds of 60 miles an hour. The flying-boats moored on the lake can weather such storms. They swing, head on to wind wherever ifc may be. The air liner may have her moorings torn up when violent winds suddenly change their direction, and the result in that case might bo serious. Homes, offices, shops, warehouses, theatres should be sprayed with Carnfosavdaily to prevent the spreading of influenza germs. Is 3d and 3s a bottle. ■Warning! 'Flu prevalent in London ..... Tapidly spreading! Be prepared. Gargle with Camfosa. All chemists. Is 3d, 3s a bottle.—Advt.
