The' Government ' Superannuation Funds Bill Committee and the Industries and Commerce Committee were given leave to sit during the sitting of the House. . - .■•

When a similar request was made on behalf of the. A to L Petitions' Committee, the Deputy Leader" of the Opposition (Mr. M.: J. Savage) said that if all the Committees were given permission to sit, there would bo no one left'in the Chamber. It was evident that the practice of giving Committees leave to sit during the sitting hours of the House could not be pushed too far. ■ . ; -.-.■. The Prime Minister (the Right Hon. G. W. Forbes) agreed that if Committees were given lea*e to sit there would be no one left in the Chamber. The Committees would have to make other arrangements. . Oil behalf of the A. to L. Committee, Mr. E. F. He.aly (Government, Wairau) said that one of the witnesses in a case before the Committee had come from Sydney, and the Committee was anxious to hear his evidence.,, ■■~

Mr. A. M. Saniuel (Government, Thames): He will-have an unprofitable trip. ■

Sir. Forbes said .that he should have been consulted before j the applications were made. ' After- all, the affairs of the country required attention. The Hon. A. D. McLeod (Government, Wairarapa) said that the- Industries and Commerce Committee decided to examine a witness from Dunedin, and he thought that the proceedings would not last more than ten minutes. The Committee could sit when the other committees were not'sitting. The committees -were given permission to sit. ■ " ">" ' : The Hawkes Bay Rivers Amendment Bill was read a first time and referred to the Local Bills Committee.
