FIRE AT HERETAUNGA
INMATE'S NARROW 'ESCAPE
Awakened by smoke in bedroom shortly, after 1 o'clock on Sunday morning, Mr. Robert .Wallis, an old age pensioner, who lived alone in! a four-roomed cottage, at Heretaunga, was just in time to escape from the fire, which had a "ood hold. The Upper -Hutt Volunteer tire Brigade quickly -arrived, but the' flames were fanned by a high wind, and the brigade was able to save only the shell of the building.
The house was situated in Sutherland avenue, and ra valued at £600 and insured for £400 in the State Fire Oflioe. The contents, which were all destroyed, were valued at £100, and were not'insured. ... ,
