HEARTS DISSECTED
BUT DOGS STILL LIVE
RUSSIAN'S EXPERIMENTS
LONDON, 7th November. Major operations on the human heart are forecasted by the "extraordinary experiments which Dr. Bruchinenko has i performed on dogs. Tho hearts of twelve have been dissected by him in the last two years, and still survive in normal health, says the Moscow correspondent of the "News-Chronicle."
The heart of one dog was sown in soventeen places by Professor Terebinski, assisted by Dr. Bruehinenko's "artificial heart," which consists of a circulation pump connected with the vascular system. After the heart has been disconnected a special chemical substance ig injected and is claimed to prevent the blood -"rom congealing for many hours during the preliminary operation, and while the heart is being linked up again. In a recent experimental operation, it is reported, a dog's heart was severed and replaced by the artificial "heart," and a second apparatus replaced its lungs, oxygenating the blood. Although the shock might have killed the dog, the heart was kept alive for six hours.
