■ , ' SYDNEY, This Day. ■ Within the past ten years the wastage in hides due chiefly to careless branding, slaughtermen's knives, and barbed wire'has cost the Australian leather industry £8,000,000. Master, tanners are appealing to cattlemen to brand on the shoulder in letters not- more than three inches in length. "They declare that great : damage has been done through unsatisfactory branding, and flaying often amounted to 10s per skin. . ■-. ■ . . ." .
