FRENCH CLUB
A cheerful evening was spent recently by, the members of the Cerele Franeais, when Misses I. and C. Sraythson presented a novel company of pierrots and pierrettes, "Les Bons Conipagnons," composed of Madame Renee Finlayson, Misses Alice Mason, Ernestine Hadfield, Allison Mackay, Dorothy Duncan, Nancy Roberts, Coralie Smythson, and I. Smythson, Messrs Balham, Miles, Potts, and Henning. Miss Una Castle was at the piano. After a few words of introduction by Miss A. Mason the company sang "Nous v'la encore la," followed by an amusing interlude "Taut mieux, tant pis" (Dr. Henning and Mr. Balham). A short sketch followed, "Priere de sourire,' in which the players were Dr Henning, Miss C. Smythson and Mr. Potts, Misses Muter and McLay (accompanied by Miss Irene Russel) contributed a dancing item, "Pas de deux." The company then sang, "Au clear de la lune," and a chorus, "Trere Jacques," with Mr. Balham ■as conductor. Two other sketches were presented, one by Miss I. Smythson and Mr. Balham ("Maniere defaire"), and another by Misses A. Mackay, E. Hadfield, and Mr. Miles ("Inipressions de voyage") Recitations were given by Madame R. Finlayson, Misses D.. Duncan, and N. Roberts. A problem (casse-tete) was distributed to the audience, arid was eventually solved by Mr. Miles, the club's mathematician. Then followed a> chorus, "Reveille toi Bergere," and "Trois ponies," by the company. After an interval a reading of Labriche's famous comedy, "I/affaire de la rue de Lourcine," was given by Mr. Balham (Lenglume), Dr. Heuning (Mistmgue), Mr. Miles (Potard), Mr. Sealey (Justin), Miss Una Castle (Norine). The evening closed with "La Marseillaise" and supper. Madame Dechanet-M<:lutosh reIceived the guests, and Madame Bend.ill conducted the conversation class from 7.30 p.m. to 8 p.m.
