LOCAL GROUPS SCHEME

A well attended meeting of members o£ the British Music Society (New Zealand section) was held in the Pioneer Club last evening, Mr. William Page presiding. The object of the gathering was the formation of half a dozen music-making groups, with a view to the stimulation of personal music-making and study. Miss Valeric Corliss, honorary organiser, submitted a tentative scheme for the setting up and operation of piano, strings, chamber, music, soli) singing, choral singing, and gramophone groups, which was discussed and unanimously adopted. policy .of ; the groups, said Miss Corliss, would be to endeavour to carry out the progressive principles of the British Music Society. Xhe groups would exist for the purpose of making music, co-ordinating .musical affairs within the society, and thus beneficially influencing by: the united effort of music lovers the musical life of the country. . The following Groups Committee was elected:—Misses Ella Fair, Catherine Moncneff, and Phyllis Howe. Messrs. D. Ferguson, A. Gittings, H. Brusey, L. Irwin, and E. Simpson, with Miss Valeric Corliss honorary organiser (ex officio). The second part of the meeting was devoted to the adoption of the constitution and rules of the society.
