DYE IN CANNED PEAS

The National Dairy Association of New Zealand,, Ltd., . was prosecuted in the Magistrate's Court to-day for a breach of the regulations under the Sale of Food and-Drugs Act by selling canned peas containing green coal • tar dye. On behalf of the company Mr. W. H. Cunningham entered a plea of guilty. He said-that the National Dairy Association was the agent in New Zealand of the Cooperative Wholesale Society of England, and the tin of peas was one of their products. It appeared clear from the analyst's report that there -was a slight amount of some colouring substance in thte peas, but as far as could be ascertained- there was nothing injurious to health in the dye, although a technical breach of the regulations had been committed.

Mr. E. Page, S.M., fined the defendants £4 and ordered them to pay the costs of the prosecution, £1 Os 6d.
