LONDON, 4th February. Mr. Chamberlain received an ovation from a crowded house, the visitors including the. Prince of Wales, the Duke of York, and Prince George. The Chancellor declared that the proposals did not represent a compromise between Protectionists and Free Traders in the Cabinet. They had agreed to differ. He was convinced that the plan accepted was a reasonable and practicable one on which there were hopes of gradually rebuilding the prosperity of the country.
