EMPIRE CO-OPERATION
AGRICULTURAL SCIENCE
The annual reports of the Imperial Agricultural Bureaux, which are eight in, number, show that, in spite of acute financial difficulties, the research work being done..continues to prosper.
The object: of the bureaux is to act as clearinghouses of information in the field, of'agricultural science, and to keep Empire research workers in touch with each other, and with the latest scientific advances in other countries. During the year, contracts were established with research workers all over the Empire. Over 2000 names are now on the mailing list to receive the publications of the various bureaux, each of which is established at a leading research station in Great Britain.
Three special conferences were organised by the bureaux during the past year, dealing with soil science, animal health, and fruit production. Theso were an outstanding success. Several officers attached to the bureaux have toured one or more of the Dominions to establish personal contact with research workers. Three of |;he bureaux — those dealing: with animal genetics at. Edinburgh, plant genetics at Abcry.stwyth, and animal health at Weybridge—now issue tegular journals containing abstracts of new and important research papers and bibliographies of publications, in foreign as well as in Empire countries.
These bureaux provide a working model of practical Empire co-operation. A resolution was adopted by the Irjiperial Conference emphasising that they provided a "notable p'recedont ibx action on a true Commonwealth basis."
