DOMINION EXECUTIVE
MATTERS, OF INTEREST
Tho meeting of the Dominion Executive of the -New Zealand Farmers' Union was concluded yesterday after-
The New Zealand Wheatgrowers' Cooperative Association wrote quoting whole fowl wheat for delivery equal quantities monthly from April to September of 1932 at 4s 5d a bushel f .o.b. Lyttelton or Tiniaru, sacks extra at 10d.
The New Zealand Poultry Association-, wrote in reference to the quality of stock foods and the necessity for i fixing a standard. It was suggested that a combined standing committee! be appointed, consisting of representa- j tives from' the Farmers' Union, National Dairy Association, Pig Bre-ed-ers' Association, Poultry Association, and others interested to investigate the situation. The meeting left the matter in the hands'of'the secretary. ; * UNEMPLOYMENT. The following remits dealing with unemployment were carried:— _ That the Y.M.C.A.'s system of training lads for farm work be endorsed, and that the Government be asked to do similar work throughout ■ the country; that the Government be approached with a view to placing vacant Crown lands under the unemployment scheme; that all farmers should be urged to avail themselves fully of the No. 4A and No. 5 Schemes for supplying men for farm labour, and that the Unemployment Board be urged to facilitate matters by instructing their committees to give the farmers tho men they ask to get;, that the Unemployment Board be asked to alter the conditions of No. 4B Scheme, and the board should be asked to pay the total amount of the" contract price, the farmer to provide usual tools, camp gear, grass seed, and other materials, and that the local Labour Department officials, or others, should be authorised to handle the payment locally, without reference to Wellington. " The following remits were also carried:— ..' ■ ■ : . That the Dominion Executive take immediate action and urge the Government to very considerably reduce the protective tariffs, so as to give Empire products next preference to New, Zealand made goods. (Southland.) That the Government be requested to instruct the High Commissioner to interview engineering firms in Great Britain with regard to the possibility of manufacturing a tinder to suit the requirements of the farmers in New Zealand, as it is felt that it would be well supported. (North Otago.)
That the attention of the Government be" drawn to tho discrepancy between the honoraria received by members of ■. electric power boards and those received, by county councillors, and that it be requested to introduce legislation to reduce the former to coincide. (Golden Bay.)
