LIFE OF PARLIAMENT
EXTENSION • OPPOSED
The hope that there would be no postponement of the General Election was expressed in the Houss of Representatives to-day by Mr. W. E. Barnard (Labour, Napier).
Mr. Barnard said he took it that the position would be covered by the .Government's statement on Tuesday. He would like to urge on the Government the need for caution and wisdom in deciding upon the question. The members of the House had been elected for three years and for no longer, and it would be an act of sheer dictatorship if the rights of the people were ignored. He could foresee grave consequences if the House decided on a postponement.
Changes in dress fashions may be a source of danger in factories, .where, it, is said, long skirts will increase the number of accidents.
