BANK AND GOVERNMENTS
LIMITED ASSISTANCE
(Received Snd October, 10 a.m.) CANBERRA, This Day. The Commonwealth Bank Board has decided to make about £300,000 available to local governing bodies for works that absorb some of the unemployed. The sum of five million for the relief of unemployment asked for by. Mr. Scullin is not likely to be granted.
HIGHER DISCOUNT RATE
CANBERRA, Ist October.
The Federal Treasurer, Mr. E. O. T!'codoTe, has announced that £5,000,000 worth of Treasury bills, covering overdraft accommodation for the New South Wales, Victorian, and West Australian Governments, have been renewed at'6}'per cent., compared with the old rate of & per cent.
He said that the higher rate is due to the Bank of England having increased its discount rates.
DECLINE IN REVENUE
(Received 2nd October, 10 a.m.) 7 CANBERRA, This Day.
In the. three months just ended the Customs revenue, £6,331,304, was less by £639,848 than the total for the corresponding period of last year,' and £318,626 below the estimate of the Treasurer.
