ISLAND BAY BAPTIST

CHURCH

The 18th anniversary of the foundation; of the Island Day Baptist Church was held recently, several functions marking the. event. Special services were held on Sunday, 20th September, Rev. C. B. Boggis* pastor, being the preacher. On the Tuesday following a tea and public meeting were held. At the meeting which followed, presided over by the pastor, the-Rev. L. J. Boulton Smith gave a stirring address on "Preaching, Parsons, and People." Greetings from the sister churches were conveyed by Mr.'E. Nefcs;" president of tho Central Auxiliary of the Baptist Union. The Rev. X N, Goring' also took part in the meeting. A musical programme was rendered at the annual churfih meeting. The reports presented by the secretary and treasurer were o£ a satisfactory nature. The deacons for the ensuing year are Messrs, .T. Patten, G. Burt, E. Pennington, E. G. Peek, JJ. .M. Palmer, J. Mills (secretary), and J. M'Hutcheon (treasurer). The Sunday School report stated that 52 scholar* sat for the Sunday School Union Scripture examination, gaining 17 ; prizes., 28 second-class certificates, and seven third-. class: certificates. The school; again iv.otf' the Baptist Union shield, being the tieconoV year in succession, and the third" oecasioA" to be winners. All who had assisted i%' the church activities were thanked for their services.
