SHOPS DEMOLISHED
FIRE AT OPUNAKE
(By Telegraph.—Press Association.) STEATFOBD, This Day. The '' Stratford Post >s " Opunake correspondent states that a disastrous fire at 1.45 a.m. demolished a block of four shops at Opunake,5 owned by Mrs/Newport, dressmaker, G. Tucker, tobacconist, J. Morris, grocer, and Mrs. M'Leas, draper, fortunately there was no wind, but the flames had a strong bold before the fire was noticed. Willing helpers formed a bucket brigade and made a wonderful save in the ease of the "Opunake Times," which caught alight several times. The insurances were not available, bnt all the business people affected suffered heavy losses. The cause of the fire is unknown, but it will be remembered that what appeared to be an attempt to set fire to the same block was discovered about a month ago.
