AN EXPLANATION
(To the Editor.)
Sir, —May we crave space to correct the current impression that the Minister of Education assured the deputation that waited on him, that the free place system would remain intact; such is not the case. He merely assured us that it would not be. totally abolished;1 this was never anticipated. _ What was anticipated and what is still likely is that the free place system will be seriously curtailed unless the parents of our children indicate in no uncertain manner their opposition to such a course. We trust that you will give this statement due publicity go that the parents and organisations who were planning to place their views before the Minister and Parliament may not be deterred from so doing by a false sense of security.—We are, etc., F. C. BREW, F. MAETYN EENNER, A. S. FABQUHAB, Members of the Deputation. Ist October.
