LAST STEER LOCATED

At the conclusion of the stampede which followed the rodeo show in December all the beasts-were-.-Accounted for except one, which disappeared into the wilds past,lsland Bay. The missing animal, a steer, was searched tor and advertised for, but nothing more was heard of it until it was'mentioned in two-bylaw cases at the Magistrate's Court yesterday afternoon, when Claude Archer and William Dovinan were' each charged with allowing stock to wandor. Counsel for the City Council, Mr. <T. Locke, saia that a steer belonging to Doi-man and a calf belonging to Archer had been found wandering on Happy Valley road. Mr. Dorman said he thought that this was one of the steers which had broken away after the Wellington rodeo show. According to a statement by Mr. Archer the animal, which had been on his property, had broken one of his fences and had escaped into the road, and the calf had followed it out of the paddock. Ranger Chapman said that he had been looking for the steer since Christmas. It was quite possible that the calf Would have followed it. The Magistrate, Mr. W. H. Woodward: "If the steer did lead the calf astray I suppose I must make allowance for it." Tho defendants were each convicted and ordered to pay costs.
